Hepatoprotective Potential of Lycopene in a Rat Model of Cisplatin-Induced Damage: Involvement of Oxidative Cell Damage and Glutathione Metabolism

Application of cisplatin for the treatment various solid tumors is known to cause liver damage, through an increase in lipid peroxidation and reactive oxygen species production. Lycopene a powerful antioxidant agent capable preventing cells formation stronger intercellular bonds faster cellular metabolism. This study aims estimate potential lycopene induced tissue damage by studying levels several biochemical parameters (arginase, aminotransferases, alkaline phosphatase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase activity, total protein albumin concentration) reflecting function panel biomarkers (xanthine oxidase, reduced glutathione, malondialdehyde, carbonylated concentration diamino oxidase activity). These would be studied male Wistar rats treated with either alone or lycopene. Additionally, microscopic analysis conducted as well. combination significantly prevented disturbance all here-studied damage. Morphological alterations followed changes hepatic status. Our results suggest that could act protective cisplatin-induced rats.
